May 6,2019 – Atlanta, GA - FreakNik 2019 is set to make a comeback this year in June, 2019 thanks in part to support from an from an Atlanta-native Promoter (After 9 Partners, LLC)
after FreakNik was banned by then-Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in 2010.
The show’s comeback is particularly remarkable as it has gained the support of George Hawthorne, the chair of the Black Spring Break Committee during the 90’s. His support and collaboration efforts will be instrumental in bringing the event alive and back to the essence for which FreakNik began, uniting the community.
Organizers of the event have emphasized the community involvement of FreakNik 2019, stating that it will be controlled and safe for everyone to attend, and will address the concerns in years past. The event was initially banned in 2010 due to the financial burden that came with it, but more importantly because of the safety concerns for participants and local residents. These fears have, however, been addressed, a claim that has been substantiated with the recent support of George Hawthorne for the event, after reaching out to Carlos N of After 9 Partners.
While FreakNik in the 90s was deemed out of control in many respects, FreakNik 2019 will be a different experience altogether. While the event is not kid or family friendly as originally reported, it will be a wonderful time for residents aged 18+ in the city to enjoy for themselves in the company of others during the official relaunch of FreakNik, after 20 years.
The 2019 edition of the event is set to be held at the Cellairis Amphitheatre at Lakewood. With Adult Games, Food, a free pre-Block Party onsite, car exhibition, independent artists exhibition, live performances, vendors, voter registration drives, health screenings, women self defense course, community service and awareness, the 2019 version, while more controlled than it’s 90’s predecessors, will still be an event you do not want to miss.
This year’s lineup to feature big acts such as Project Pat, Uncle Luke, Da Brat, Foxy Brown, Kilo Ali, Bun B., Ying Yang Twins, Pastor Troy, and more to be announced6e!
Ticket sales for FreakNik 2019 will range from $35 to $221 (plus fees) and are available for purchase at www.FreakNikFest.com
