Matt Garstka, currently drummer for the band Animals as Leaders, is an extremely talented drummer. He is a drummer from The Berklee College of Music, which has a long history of putting out great musicians for the world to hear. Is Matt a drummer that I would want on my gig? Maybe not.

Not all gigs are made for every musician, however every professional musician knows that you finish the gig. On October 18, 2012, Matt Garstka showed bad form by walking out on a gig. The gig was for Terrence Lee Jones at the Confidential in Beverly Hills, CA.

We all know that Terrence Lee Jones, who is currently being featured on WeTV's Braxton Family Values, can be a lot. However, as a Musical Director, Terrence has worked with Debbie Allen and Sean "Puffy" Combs". This alone gives you an example of the level of musicianship that Terrence is used to.

From an entertainment professional, anyone looking to hire Matt Garstka do so very cautiously. Talent is less than half of the equation when working as a musician. Having a pleasing personality and being trustworthy can make up for a lack of talent, but having talent alone can't make up for the former.

Matt Garstka, you bad bad boy you, the best way to handle this situation in the future is simple. Play your best on every gig and finish strong. In the world of entertainment, you never know who's watching you. The lesson here, don't hire based on talent alone.
