Meko Starr Tomkia " Meko Starr" Gibson was born August 6, 1973 in the city of Detroit, She began to sing at the young at young age of 8 years old. Inspired by the hit move, "The Wiz",starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross, she decided to broaden her horizons and become a singer. Tomika began to take her career more seriously at the age of 16 by recording demos with various music producers such as Gregory Charles, Paul Allen and Michael Powell.

With such strong influences from these top producers, she decided to pursue a career in R&B music. It was then that she was given the name Meko from her first name, Starr, because she has the destiny to become a star after showing the world her skills as a vocalist and writer in the music field. She has had a lot of trials and tribulations in making a journey towards the musical industry. She had no church background expect being saved in the year of 1994, and attending Straight Gate Church located in Detroit. It was there that she began to build a strong relationship with Christ, who has become her roadmap. Meko decided to let God us his acuity, to help lead her in the direction towards her musical goals. She had decided from doing other R&B projects, she wanted to include Gospel music also in her career.
