R&B Sensation Arika Kane’s “Make It” Selected As Theme Song For VH1’s Hollywood Exes

R&B sensation Arika Kane’s single “Make It” has been selected as the theme song for Hollywood Exes, a new VH1 docu-series that will make its premiere on Wednesday, June 27th at 8 pm EST. “Make It” is the first single that was released from her self-titled debut album. Hollywood Exes chronicles the struggles and aspirations of Hollywood celebs who have moved on from their famous ex-husbands to face life on their own terms, establishing new lives and identities in the process. The cast of Hollywood exes includes Nicole Murphy (Eddie Murphy), Sheree Fletcher (Will Smith), Jessica Canseco (Jose Conseco), Andrea Kelly (R. Kelly), and Mayte Garcia (Prince).

Lou Humphrey, CEO of BSE Recordings, commented on the honor and Kane’s career, stating, “Arika is an amazing talent. She writes, produces, engineers, and is just a great human being. She has an uncanny ability to have such a firm grasp on urban, urban AC, and pop music. Her music is geared towards issues that I am heavily in support of, that being, what women go through on a day to day basis that is unappreciated and untold. So, a lot of her lyrical content is related to topics that we both strongly believe in. She has made great strides in the short time that we’ve been with her, performing in major concerts with icons like Frankie Beverly and Maze, Babyface, Charlie Wilson – legends in their own right, and she has been praised by all of them. We believe that her career only has room to grow as she has become a darling of the VH1, MTV, and BET families, having multiple songs placed on multiple shows. It seems that we’ve found a formula that works and we’re hoping for even bigger and better things for her. Arika has also been the only white female artist doing this genre of music to have 3 songs in the top 20 of Billboard Magazine as early as #69 since Teena Marie did it, and that’s a pretty bold statement.”

Arika remarked, “I’m really excited because “Make It” is the first song from my debut album. It’s a song that tells about my story, and it’s uplifting and inspiring. A lot of people who know my music know my R&B love songs. So, the fact that a song that is so personal for me is going to be out there, being heard, and connecting me to my audience in a different way as far as encouraging people to overcome their obstacles and just go for the gold and do what you’ve got to do to make it and be happy, is something for which I’m very thankful. I’m also thrilled to have such a significant avenue as VH1 and such a successful company as BSE Recordings to be the base for my music.”

Both Humphrey and Kane acknowledge that the support that they’ve received from VH1’s Lacey Rutter has been critical to their success, agreeing, “You can have all the talent you want, but to be successful, you have to have people who both believe in you and can do something about it at the same time. That’s who Lacey is for us. She believes in the music and reached out to us a couple of years ago because of that fact, and her support has continued to be unwavering. Lacey is a tremendous part of everything that is happening here.”

Kane’s music has been placed and featured on several VH1 Reality & Sitcom TV shows such as “What Chili Wants,” “Basketball Wives,” “Single Ladies,” and “Love & Hip Hop”. Arika has appeared on the “Mo'Nique Show,” and recently captivated the audience @ the world famous “Ashford & Simpsons” Sugar Bar in NYC.
