"The Gay Slim Shady" Releases Controversial New Mixtape "Cockaveli"

He's been called the "gay Slim Shady"-- Cocky da Homo MC, native Pittsburgh resident, created a media firestorm with his debut mixtape released earlier this year, which featured slanderous remarks against hip hop legends 2Pac and the Notorious B.I.G., as well as attacks on fellow Pittsburghers Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. Now, returning with a set of 20 tracks, a much more focused Cocky delivers shocking but entertaining material keeping the listener at the edge of the seat throughout the whole tape. He blames Eminem's homophobic lyrics for being bullied in high school in the dubstep-inspired "Out Tha Closet," urges fellow gays to form violent gangs in "Givin' Up," and name-drops the rapper Game (oh the irony...) as his biggest crush in "Kush." Perhaps the biggest shock is the cut "Rick Santorum" in which Cocky goes as far as to describe, sexually, what he'd like to do with the Pennsylvanian senator, is widely known for his anti-gay stances. Other tracks aren't as offensive, such as "Welfare," an anthemic piano rap-ballad about the pains of "counting quarters trying to make it to a happy meal." All in all, a solid effort and very entertaining tape. B+
